Bio

Zéphyrin Rey-Bellet is a young and talented cellist with a strong interest for his art.
His sensitivity, his generosity and his technic are already seen as a great promise for the future.

Very young he has shown a great interest for music and when he was just 4, he took his first cello lessons. At the age of five he took part in the Children “Schubertiades” and started giving recitals at a very young age.

At 15, he was admitted in the well-known class of François Guye in the High Music School of Geneva, and obtained his Soloist Master with distinction in June 2010. He is also the laureate of several international competitions, such as first Prize of Rovere d’Oro International Competition, or Public Prize of de Julia Cardonna International Competition.
He won several scholarships for young talents and was recently awarded the André-François Marescotti Scholarship.

In February 2008, he studied “The Trois Stophes sur le nom de Sacher” with Henri Dutilleux who sees in him a remarkable interpreter of his music. He played this piece in the concert given in honour and in the presence of the composer in the Victoria Hall in Geneva.

Numerous masterclasses and lessons gave him the opportunity of refining his way of playing, among others : Natalia GUTMANN, Janos STARKER, Antonio MENESSES, Miklòs PERENYI, Franz HELMERSON, Philippe MULLER.
He has also become an appreciated player of chamber music with the help of Nobuko IMAI, and Guy-Michel CAILLAT and has deepened his knowledge of Contemporary music with Jean-Jacques BALET or the composer Wiliam BLANK.. He has also benefited from the advice of Gary HOFFMAN and Michal KANKA the cellist of the Prazak Quartet.

He has played the great concertos of the Repertoire (Dvorak, Schumann, St-Saens, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Haydn, etc.) in Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine with various philharmonic orchestra such as Kaunas City Symphny Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Kharkov Philarmony Orchestra …

He has played recitals in different European Countries (Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Holland, China, etc.)

He has been invited to play several times for many nationals radios, or televisions.

From 2010, he is the artistic director of the chamber music festival “Les Estivales de Megève”.

He play on a Joachim Schade Cello, playd by Pierre Fournier.
